2 DAY TOUR
Day 1 This tour is of necessity quite concentrated as we need to fit a lot into a short time. The tour starts from Sani Lodge at 9am. We travel the spectacular 4x4 track up the Sani Pass and into Lesotho. From Sani Top, we drive about 50km into Lesotho, over Black Mountain Pass (at 3240m, the second highest road pass in Lesotho) and down the Sehonghong river valley, through rugged scenery. We arrive at Molumong Lodge , about 50km into Lesotho by lunch time. Saddle up after lunch for an afternoon ride to the village of Libibing where we stay the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

Day 2 After breakfast, ride back via a different route to Molumong. After lunch start the return journey stopping for a drink at Sani Top Chalet, reputed to be the highest pub in Africa. Return to Sani Lodge by around 5 pm.

3 DAY TOUR
DAY 1 This tour is a bit more relaxed and allows you more time on horseback. It starts as for the 2 day tour, stopping for lunch by a set of lovely swimming spots in the river, and then heading on into typical highland village country. We arrive at Molumong in mid-afternoon, saddle up and do a 2 hour ride to Libibing village where we spend the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

DAY 2 After breakfast we set off on a full day of riding. The day will include superb views, crossing the Senqu River and climbing up high into the mountains to stay the night in the village of Malubelube where we stay the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

DAY 3 After breakfast, we set off on horse back following a shorter return route to Molumong. Arriving around noon, we have lunch before setting off on the journey home. Time permitting, we stop off for a drink at Sani Top Chalet, reputed to be the highest pub in Africa. Return to Sani Lodge by around 5 pm

4 DAY TOUR

We offer two 4 day pony trekking tour options:

OPTION 1: 4 Day Ride to Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest point in southern Africa !!

Day 1 This tour starts as for the 2 and 3 day trips, After lunch by the river, we either visit the highlands town of Mokhotlong and then stay the night at Molumong Lodge,  or we arrive at Molumong in mid-afternnon and saddle up for a 2 hour ride to Libibing village to spend the first night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

Day 2 Set off on horseback after breakfast for a full day of riding. Superb scenery and atmospheric villages fill the day. Stay the night in a motebo or shepherd's dwelling on a high ridge.

Day 3 Follow the high ridge through soaring mountain scenery as we approach our goal, Thabana Ntlenyana, at 3482m the highest point south of Mount Kilimanjaro! Sit on top of southern Africa for lunch, then start the journey back. Overnight in traditional rondavel accommodation in a village.

Day 4 Return on horseback to Molumong Lodge for lunch before setting off on the journey home. Time permitting, we stop off for a drink at Sani Top Chalet, reputed to be the highest pub in Africa. Return to Sani Lodge by around 5 pm.

NOTE: This tour is for the experienced horse rider as it entails 2 1/2 to 3 long days in the saddle!! Accommodation in the motebo is very basic and warm sleeping bags are required.

OPTION 2: 4 Day Village trek:

DAY 1 Starts as for the 3 day tour, stopping for lunch by a set of lovely swimming spots in the river, and then heading on into typical highland village country. We arrive at Molumong in mid-afternoon, saddle up and do a 2 hour ride to Libibing village where we spend the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

DAY 2 After breakfast we set off on a full day of riding. The day will include superb views, crossing the Senqu River and climbing up high into the mountains to stay the night in the village of Malubelube where we stay the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

DAY 3 After breakfast we set off on another full day of riding. The day will include more superb views and ends up in the little visited remote village of Bobatsi where we stay the night in traditional rondavel accommodation.

DAY 4 After breakfast, we set off on horse back following a shorter return route to Molumong. Arriving around noon, we have lunch before setting off on the journey home. Time permitting, we stop off for a drink at Sani Top Chalet, reputed to be the highest pub in Africa. Return to Sani Lodge by around 5 pm

NOTE: While this tour still entails many hours in the saddle, it is a far gentler option that the Thabana Ntlenyana ride.
